If you’ve been around these parts for a bit, you’ll know that I like to make a few different fun “poop” snack recipes. I’ve made Snowman Poop, Moose Poop, Grinch Poop, Polar Bear Poop, etc. Out of them all, I have to say, THIS one is my absolute favorite.
“Omg, this stuff is insanely addictive! I had to make sure I shared with my friends or I would have eaten the whole bag you gave me!” – my neighbor.
What You’ll Need To Create It
Here’s the four ingredients you’ll need to whip up a batch of Penguin Poop:
- Sweet and salty popcorn: Store-bought or homemade, it’s the foundation of this mix. You can use regular popcorn, but I really feel the sweet/salty mix goes a long way in the “addictive” part of this snack mix!
- Mini Oreos: The mini oreos give a nice kick of chocolate and creamy sweetness. Also, I used these because penguins love a good black-and-white theme. Sub: Any mini chocolate sandwich cookie.
- Chocolate-covered peanuts: Adds that perfect crunch. I used Glossette peanuts but for a substitute, try Goobers, Peanut M&M’s or chocolate-covered almonds.
- Mini Marshmallows: They add that soft comforting chew.
- White chocolate: I used Lindt white chocolate and it’s the “glue” that holds it all together. You can also use candy melts or almond bark.
Makin’ The Penguin Poop
That could be meant in two ways, but I mean it in the yummy food way.
- PREP: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- MELT CHOCOLATE: Heat the white chocolate in 30-second intervals in the microwave, stirring until smooth. Careful not to burn it!
- MIX UP THE MAGIC: Toss the popcorn, mini Oreos, and Glossette peanuts in a large bowl. Drizzle the melted chocolate over everything and gently fold to coat.
- LAY IT OUT: Transfer the penguin poop to the baking sheet and level out.
- CHILL OUT: I like to place it in the fridge to let it cool until the chocolate hardens, then break it up and store in an airtight container.
Eazy Tip: Heating the chocolate too much can scorch it so only melt it in small time increments. Also, if the chocolate is a bit too warm, it can melt the chocolate off the peanuts. It’s not a big deal because if happens, it still tastes delicious, but it’s nice if the peanuts can keep their chocolate coating.
Storage Ideas & Suggestions
Making this 5 ingredient penguin poop in a big batch? Not a problem.
You can store the leftovers in an airtight container for up to 7 days at room temperature. Just remember to place it in your pantry or a cool and dark place away from direct sunlight.
If you want it to last longer, you can refrigerate it in a tightly sealed container. I don’t recommend freezing this dessert because the chocolate could absorb moisture, and you’ll end up with soggy Penguin Poop—not exactly the vibe we’re going for.
