Welcome to the easiest 3 ingredient blueberry bagels recipe ever! These 3-ingredient lovelies are perfect for lazy mornings, afternoon tea, or whenever you’re craving something soft, chewy, with a delicious fruity flavor.

Just like my other 3 Ingredient Greek Yogurt Bagel Recipe, this bagel recipe is awesome because there’s no boiling, no fuss—just mix, bake, and devour. I’ll show you how to make them, give some other fun flavor ideas, and give a bunch of Eazy Tips to guarantee your bagels come out just right.

One blueberry bagel with cottage cheese in a glass plate with blueberries in the background.

At my local bagel spot, one toasted, flavored bagel (usually cinnamon raisin), with cream cheese and a dollop of strawberry jam is (no joke) $5.89 BEFORE tax.

Ridiculous. And they aren’t even that nummy.

So make your bagels at home, make them super easy like this 2 ingredient rustic loaf of bread, and make a batch to freeze so you can not only save money but save time from having to stop by the drive-through for just one sad, sad ridiculously expensive bagel.

Bagel Ingredients

Yogurt – Hello high protein! So not only are these bagels delish, but they’re also high in protein and will keep your tummy full for a long time.
Self-Rising Flour – I buy my self-rising flour but you can make your own as well. Self rising flour just means that the baking powder and salt are already added for you.
Blueberries – I used fresh massive blueberries (not sure what they’re feeding them lately), but if you don’t have any fresh on hand, feel free to use frozen. Typically you can buy cultivated or wild blueberries (My local Great Value brand carries them), so use whatever you can find. If you want to get creative, even freeze-dried blueberries would be fun!

Optional Ingredients: Jam, cream cheese, extra blueberries, butter, etc.

How to Make These Bagels

It’s actually easier than you think. Like I mentioned earlier, there’s no boiling or anything to these bagels. You’ll whip up a quick dough with self-rising flour and yogurt, add in some juicy blueberries (fresh, frozen, or even dried), shape them into bagels, and bake. That’s it! The whole process takes under an hour. I’ll save the exact details for the printable recipe card found below, but trust me, it’s as easy as it sounds.

The secret to their fun purple hue? (Lightly) mashing the blueberries first! They tint the dough while keeping some fruity bits for the blueberry flavor to come through in every bite.

Eazy Tips for Bagel Perfection

  1. Don’t Skip the Rest Time: Letting the dough rest for 15 minutes helps it relax and makes shaping the bagels easier. The dough will thank you!
  2. Flour is Your Friend: The dough might get sticky while you knead, so keep sprinkling flour a little at a time until it’s smooth and workable. Gloves are a great hack to avoid purple-stained hands!
  3. Frozen or Dried Berries? It’s ok! : If using frozen berries, thaw and drain them well to avoid adding too much liquid to the dough. For dried berries, rehydrate them in warm water for 10 minutes for a juicier bite.
  4. Want Sweeter Bagels?: Toss in a spoonful of sugar, honey, or syrup into the dough if you prefer a sweeter taste. You can even sprinkle sugar on top before baking for a bakery-style vibe.
  5. Let’em Rest: Don’t skip the resting time. It helps give the bagels a more tender bite/chew when you rest the dough. It’s not imperative, but it’s something I like to do.

Storing, Freezing, and Thawing

  • Storing: These bagels are best enjoyed fresh but will keep for up to 2 days at room temp in an airtight container. For longer storage, freeze them (see below).
  • Reheating Hack: If they start to feel dry, here’s the magic trick: run the bagel under water (yes, really!), then pop it in the toaster or microwave for a few seconds. This brings back that fresh-baked softness like a charm.
  • Freezing: Bagels freeze beautifully! Once cooled, wrap them individually in plastic wrap and store in a freezer bag for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temp or zap in the microwave for 30 seconds for a quick, warm bagel fix.

Topping Ideas

Bagel Recipe FAQ’s

What can I do with bagels that have dried out or gone stale?

If your bagels dry out, don’t toss them—turn them into croutons!
Cube the bagels, toss them with melted butter and your favorite spices (think cinnamon sugar for sweet), and toast in the oven. Use the sweet croutons for topping yogurt bowls or ice cream or making fruity parfaits with yogurt and other fresh fruit.

These 3-ingredient blueberry bagels are soft, chewy, and ridiculously easy to make! Perfect for breakfast or a snack, they come together in under an hour with yogurt, self-rising flour, and blueberries. Make a batch and freeze them for later, and enjoy the magic of homemade bagels anytime.

Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 3/4 cup yogurt
  • 2 cups self-rising flour and extra for kneading
  • Extras: Cream cheese, butter, fresh blueberries, jam/jelly, etc.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Arrange half the blueberries on a flat plate and lightly mash them with a fork so
the berries let off a bit of juice.
  3. In a bowl, add the flour and the yogurt. Add blueberries to the bowl. Using a spatula or spoon, stir the yogurt, flour, and blueberries into the bowl.
  4. Stir and the dough mixture will come out a bit sticky.
  5. Transfer the dough to a board sprinkled with flour and knead until smooth, adding more flour as needed. Knead until the dough is no longer sticky. Allow the dough to rest, covered, for 15 minutes.
  6. Divide the dough in half with a knife. Divide each piece into three more pieces. Roll each piece into a ball. Make a hole in the center of the ball with your thumb. Stretch it out to make a bagel.
  7. Line a baking tray with parchment paper. Place the bagels on the parchment. (optional step: Melt some butter and brush the bagels, or use an egg wash if you prefer.)
  8. Bake for about 15 minutes in the oven. Cool completely before cutting or toasting.

Notes

I recommend that you wear gloves if you don't want your hands to get purple/blue tinted.
Mashing the blueberries isn't required, adding them whole will prevent the dough from becoming purple. But it's pretty to look at!
