I’m about to say something controversial, but someone has to: Twinkies are the ultimate culinary shortcut and I’m tired of pretending they aren’t.
While everyone else is sweating over a hot oven trying to make a proper sponge cake, we’re over here hacking our way with the twinkies to make a 4-Ingredient Twinkie Strawberry Cake that’s going to steal the show at the next BBQ. It’s nostalgic, it’s cold, and it’s basically a strawberry shortcake that takes a shortcut.
If you’ve already mastered my 3-Ingredient Chocolate Zucchini Muffins, you know I live for a recipe that feels like a cheat code. This is exactly that. It’s the perfect mix of creamy, fruity, and “I can’t believe she used Twinkies.”

🌟 Ingredients Notes
Nothing wild and crazy for ingredients here. Everything you need is easily found at the grocery store.
✅ Twinkies – Sliced in half lengthwise. The secret cake layer that stays perfectly soft.
✅ Fresh Strawberries – One pound, hulled and sliced. Try to use the juiciest ones.
✅ Strawberry Jam – This creates that glossy, beautiful filling that soaks into the cake.
✅ Cool Whip – One 8 oz tub, thawed. This is our cloud of glory on top.

How to Make 4-Ingredient Twinkie Strawberry Cake
- Layer those halved Twinkies in your pan, think of them as the comfy mattress for your strawberries.
- Mix your sliced berries with the warmed jam until they look like a literal snack.
- Spread the berry mixture over the cakes, then bury the whole thing under a thick layer of whipped topping.
- Chill it for at least an hour so the Twinkie filling and the jam get to be friends.

Serving Tips and Variations
- Use a sugar-free jam or swap the jam entirely for some instant vanilla pudding to amplify the creaminess level.
- Just before you serve it, sprinkle on some red dusting sugar. Just don’t do it early or it’ll melt and bleed into the white topping, nobody wants a messy cake!
- Swap the strawberries for raspberries or blackberries.
- If you’re obsessed with strawberries and chocolate, a drizzle of melted milk (or dark) chocolate over the top is actual perfection. You could also do a bottled chocolate sunday drizzle as well.
If you have extra berries, use them in my 5-Ingredient Strawberry Banana Cake or even a Strawberry Milkshake while you wait for this to chill!
🙋♀️ Frequently Asked Questions
You can definitely make it a few hours ahead, but I wouldn’t go past 24 hours. The Twinkies will get softer the longer they sit, moving from cake texture to trifle texture. Both are delicious, but it depends on what you want!
Easy! Grab a 9×13 pan, double the ingredients, and use about 12-14 Twinkies to cover the bottom.
I wouldn’t recommend it. Frozen berries release way too much liquid when they thaw, which will turn your Twinkies into a soggy mess. Fresh is definitely best here.
No problem!. You can use raspberry jam, or swap the jam entirely for a box of vanilla or strawberry instant pudding mixed with the berries. It’ll be creamier and less sweet.

Storage and Freezing
- Keep this beauty covered in the fridge for up to 2 days. The longer it sits, the softer those Twinkies get and by day two, it’s basically a high-end trifle.
- Do NOT freeze this. I know it’s tempting, but the strawberries will get mushy and the Twinkie filling gets a weird texture when it thaws. Have some friends over to finish it up!
- If you end up buying a massive container of berries, use the leftovers for these 3-Ingredient Strawberry Pancakes the next morning – you won’t be sorry!
I’m so excited for you to try this! It’s the ultimate low-effort, high-reward treat. If you make it, please leave a comment below in the comments section and tell me how it went, I love hearing your wins! 🥂

4-Ingredient Twinkie Strawberry Cake Recipe
A extremely easy no-bake dessert featuring soft Twinkies, juicy strawberries, and fluffy whipped topping.
Ingredients
- 6 Twinkies, sliced in half lengthwise
- 1 lb fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1 cup strawberry jam or preserves
- 1 (8 oz) tub Cool Whip, thawed
Instructions
- Line an 8x8 inch dish with parchment paper for easy serving.
- Arrange Twinkie halves cut-side up in the bottom of the dish.
- Reserve 1/2 cup of sliced strawberries for the garnish.
- Microwave jam for 15-20 seconds, then stir into the remaining strawberries.
- Spoon the strawberry mixture evenly over the Twinkie layer.
- Spread the Cool Whip over the top and garnish with the reserved berries.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving.
Notes
- If you need this to hold its structure for a party that lasts several hours, stir 1/2 teaspoon of unflavored gelatin powder into the warmed jam before mixing it with the strawberries. This creates a subtle glaze that locks the moisture inside the berries, completely stopping them from weeping water into the Twinkies over time.
- If your strawberries are a bit sour, stir a tiny pinch (1/16 tsp) of baking soda into the warm jam. This neutralizes the sharp citric acid, making the fruit taste naturally deeper and riper without adding extra sugar.
