🌟Ingredient Notes

Ingredients including a container of strawberries, a bottle of blue sugar, and a block vanilla almond bark.

✅ Fresh Strawberries – Keep the green tops intact. They are your built-in handles for dipping so your fingers don’t get covered in faux-chocolate.
✅ Vanilla Almond Bark – This melts much smoother than regular white chocolate chips and hardens into a perfect shell within minutes.
✅ Blue Sanding Sugar –  Look for the coarse, sparkly kind so it catches the light on your dessert table.

How to Make Easy Patriotic Dipped Strawberries

  1. Rinse and dry the strawberries. Make sure they are bone dry or the bark will get weird.
  2. Melt the almond bark by microwaving for 30 second increments, stirring in between, until melted.
  3. Start by dipping the strawberries into the melted almond bark. Let all of the excess candy drip off.
  4. Dip the strawberry into the sanding sugar.
  5. Place onto the wax or parchment paper, and allow the strawberries to set before enjoying.

🙋‍♀️ Frequently Asked Questions

How far ahead can I make these?

You can make them up to 24 hours in advance. Just store them in the fridge in a single layer lined with paper towels to catch any condensation.

Why is my sugar coating melting?

If the strawberries weren’t 100% dry before dipping, moisture gets trapped under the bark and leaks out, dissolving the sugar. Dry them like your life depends on it!

Can I use white chocolate chips instead of almond bark?

You can, but chocolate chips burn easily in the microwave and stays soft for a long time. (Sometimes adding coconut oil helps harden the chips.) If you keep the strawberries chilled just before serving, chips are ok. I find Almond bark is a total cheat code because it hardens up perfectly in minutes without tempering.

Storage and Freezing

Keep these in a single layer in the fridge for up to a day. Whatever you do, don’t freeze them. Frozen strawberries turn into complete mush when they thaw, and your beautiful patriotic sugar layer will turn into a messy purple puddle. Just make exactly what you need for the party so you don’t have to worry about leftovers!

Notes

  • After towel-drying your berries, stick them upside down (stem-side down) in the holes of an upside-down colander or a wire cooling rack for 5 minutes before dipping. This lets air circulate perfectly around the tips, ensuring there isn't a single microscopic drop of water left to seize your chocolate.
  • If your strawberry stems are too short or break off while you're working, don't sweat it. Just push a toothpick straight into the green core of the stem end. It gives you a perfect, sturdy handle to dip the berry without getting your fingers sticky or dropping the fruit into the warm bark bowl.
