These easy Cranberry Ricotta Crostini are an absolute must for a holiday appetizer because honestly, the absolute last thing you need is a 15-step appetizer that requires a culinary degree to assemble before you even get the main course sorted.
And, one of the best things about them (besides the flavors) is that they LOOK all festive and holiday-ee with just the slightest bit of effort required to make them.
Win win!

We are calling this a 3-ingredient appetizer because, frankly, the fresh rosemary sprig on top is purely optional. Nobody is out here munching on a whole woody stem of rosemary like a snack, am I right?
With just crunchy toasted baguette, rich whipped ricotta, and bright cranberry sauce, you get an elegant, festive bite that looks like it came straight from a high-end catering menu.
🛒 The 3 Core Ingredients

✅ Toasted Baguette (Crostini) – You can buy pre-toasted crostini rounds at the bakery counter, or just grab a fresh French baguette, slice it thin, brush with olive oil, and broil for a minute or two until golden. I find that the pre-toasted ones are convenient, but the home-made ones aren’t quite as dry.
✅ Ricotta Cheese – I like whole-milk ricotta overall. It’s naturally sweeter, creamier, and holds its structure so much better on top of the bread than part-skim versions.
✅ Cranberry Sauce – Homemade or canned, whole-berry or smooth, use whatever you have on hand! This is the best way to use up leftover holiday cranberry sauce without feeling like you’re eating plain leftovers. But if you have to shop and choose at the store, I prefer whole berry cranberry sauce because of the texture the bits of berries gives things.
👩🍳 How to Make Cranberry Ricotta Crostini
1. If your baguette slices aren’t toasted yet, place them on a baking sheet, drizzle or brush lightly with olive oil, and broil for 1 to 2 minutes until light golden brown. Let them cool slightly.

2. Spread ricotta cheese evenly onto each crostini round.

3. Top each cheese-layered crostini of cranberry sauce.

4. Cut small sprigs of fresh rosemary to top each crostini for a festive pop of green (this is optional by the way), and serve immediately!

Since the basic formula is so insanely simple, it’s super fun to play around with flavor add-ins depending on what’s sitting in your fridge:
- Orange Zest Magic – Brighten up the whole bite by folding a teaspoon of fresh orange zest directly into your ricotta, or grating it over the cranberry sauce right before serving. Citrus and cranberry are a match made in heaven.
- Herbed Ricotta – Instead of leaving the rosemary stem on top for looks, finely mince those leaves and whip them straight into the ricotta cheese with a tiny pinch of sea salt and black pepper.
- Honey or Maple Drizzle – Drizzle a tiny drop of hot honey or warm maple syrup over the top just before guests arrive for a sweet-and-spicy kick.
- The Dessert Table Pivot – If you’re building out a full holiday party spread with bite-sized treats, these savory-sweet crostini pair amazingly well next to easy sweets like my 3-Ingredient Biscoff Truffles or a batch of fun 3-Ingredient Moose Poop Candy
Can you assemble these ahead of time?
Short answer: No. If you spread wet ricotta and tart cranberry sauce onto toasted bread in the morning, by evening party time you’ll be serving your guests cranberry bread pudding textures. Not fun at all.
Prepping for a Food Table or Buffet
- The Butter Barrier – If you know these crostini are going to sit out on a party platter for an hour or two while guests mingle, brush a very thin layer of melted butter (or extra olive oil) over the toasted bread and let it crisp up completely before adding toppings. The fat creates a protective moisture barrier that stops the wet ricotta from soaking into the bread crumbs!
- Prep the Components Separate – Toast your crostini rounds up to two days ahead and store them in an airtight container at room temp. Keep your ricotta and cranberry sauce prepped in bowls in the fridge. When it’s party time, assembly takes literally 3 minutes!
🍷 What to Serve Beside These Crostini
Truth be told, these aren’t ideal JUST for the holiday table. They fit the bill as an easy appetizer any time, to be honest. They’re just as comfy fitting in on a whole appetizer buffet, or they can pull their weight as a single munchie with a glass of something special around the fire.
Give this Cranberry Ricotta Crostini recipe a shot for your next holiday gathering, and enjoy actually being able to hang out with your guests instead of being trapped in the kitchen. Drop a comment below if you added orange zest or went classic!

3-Ingredient Cranberry Ricotta Crostini
These easy Cranberry Ricotta Crostini turn prepared cranberry sauce, creamy ricotta, and toasted baguette into a ridiculously simple 3-ingredient holiday appetizer.
Ingredients
- 6 crostini (or 6 slices baguette, toasted)
- 6 tbsp ricotta cheese (whole milk preferred)
- 6 tbsp cranberry sauce (homemade or canned)
- 6 small sprigs fresh rosemary (optional garnish)
Instructions
- If your baguette slices are not toasted, place them on a baking sheet, brush lightly with olive oil, and broil on High for 1 to 2 minutes until lightly golden. Let cool.
- Spread 1 tablespoon of ricotta cheese onto each toasted crostini.
- Top each layer of ricotta with 1 tablespoon of cranberry sauce.
- Garnish with tiny sprigs of fresh rosemary if desired and serve immediately.
Notes
- If serving these on a party buffet line, brush your baguette slices with melted butter before toasting. The fat hardens slightly as it cools, forming an invisible, edible waterproof seal that keeps the liquid in the ricotta from turning your crostini soggy as it sits!
- Keep your cranberry sauce ice-cold in the fridge right up until the second you spoon it onto the warm, room-temp ricotta. The extreme temperature contrast between the cool tart berries and creamy cheese makes the first bite feel remarkably fresh and chef-curated.
